Happy Friday, loves. Welp, this month flew by, didnt it?
My intention, as most of you know, is to get these to you at the top of each month. What day is it? Oh, the 22nd? Cool. God's still working on me.
July has been intense for me in a variety of ways. I offered a healing meditation call for black women feeling the heaviness of all that is persistently wrong with our world. I released two podcast episodes, along with my creative partner Zakkiyyah Najeebah (tune in here)! I hosted my boyfriends' listening party. I went to my first Pitchfork (FKA Twigs FTW). And Party Noire, a monthly day party focused on Black Joy that I co-founded along with Nick Alder and DJ Rae Chardonnay, has grown tremendously. We have five events in the month of July alone (more on that here). Things have been popping off ever since we were recognized as Chicago's Best Dance Party in the Chicago Reader, and since we hosted the lovely Jamila Woods' album release party last month (p.s. have you heard her amazing new album?)
Overall, this month has taught me that whatever is meant to be will be, self-care is self-preservation, and that I need to be my own support system first. Healthy reminders from myself to myself, and maybe you'll find something powerful in these simple, yet profound, drops of wisdom, too!
What's on the horizon?
Tomorrow, I'm hosting a sold-out Everyday People (Saada, DJ Moma, and Chef Roble) x Party Noire party with Nick and Rae! Follow us on Snapchat for behind-the-scenes, if you're unable to attend! #DreamComeTrue...and join the Party Noire e-mail list as we'll be announcing a couple of upcoming events in Chicago andNYC very soon!
What I'm digging lately.
Calid B.'s Afrobang album is your summer banger. Trust me. Oh, and ya homegirl is rapping on track 3, Gold.
My new friend and fellow wellness-enthused soul sister Tracy G. got my entire life with her audio affirmations. Put this on the next time you're getting ready for your day. Thank me later.
My friend and personal stylist Mycall Akeem Riley is currently accepting clients for closet cleanouts, summer soirees, weddings, and more. He has styled me for interviews, public speaking engagements, and Party Noire. He's simply the sh*t! Contact him here.
Here's one of my favorite pieces up on Black Girl In Om's online publication about "13 Energies that Lower your Vibration" courtesy of my girl Lalah Delia. A must-read, share it with someone!
That's all, for now. As always: be well.
